A tradition for our community is the annual Oktoberfest. This activity brings visitors and vendors from all over the region to La Mesa for a weekend dedicated to family, friends, great food and entertainment. The La Mesa Village Merchants Association began this popular event 41 years ago. This event has gone from a small street fair to a 3-day festival with over 200 vendors offering goods and services to over 200,000 attendees. Add great food, lots of children's activities, entertainment and of course, good old German brats and cold beer, and you have a family event that has something for everyone!
The Kid Zone is back at the Plaza for children age 12 and under. Have fun from 11 am to 9 pm Friday and Saturday and from Noon to 5 pm on Sunday.
A special guest star this year is Marissa Grace, a 12 year old La Mesa resident who is very good. Marissa will be performing at our 4th St Food Court from 4 pm to 6 pm on Friday, and at our Nebo Dr Food Court from 4 to 6 pm on Saturday.
Joining us this year is the "Bavarian Beer Garden Band". They will be at our Nebo Dr Beer Garden on Friday October 3rd from 6 pm to 9 pm and on Saturday from 2 pm to 4 pm. The band will also be at our 4th St Food Court from 6 pm to 9 pm on Saturday.
Also with us will be our friends from "Bone-a-fied Brass". They will be our guests at the 4th St Food Court on Saturday the 4th from 2 pm to 4 pm.
Also, Baron Guy Rand and Baroness Muirren from "Barony of Calafia" of the Society for Creative Anachronism will be honoring us with their presence. They will be accompanied by their Knights and will be giving demonstrations of sword fighting at 4th St and La Mesa Blvd and at Nebo Dr and La Mesa Blvd throughout the event. Also they will be demonstrating various arts and sciences at their booth, located just west of Spring St on La Mesa Blvd. They also will be located for photos in the La Mesa Plaza, and in our Children's Garden between Date St and Nebo Dr, from 11 am to 9 pm Friday and Saturday, and Sunday from Noon to 5 pm.
Helping to close our show on Sunday will be "Young Actors Theatre". They will be performing on Sunday at the 4th St Food Court at 3 pm and at the Nebo Dr Food Court at 4:30 to close our event.
New this year is real German Beer in our Nebo Dr Beer Garden! We will be serving Hacker-Pschorr Original Oktoberfest, Munich Gold and Paulaner Hafe-Weisen beers exclusively at the Nebo Dr Beer Garden, next to the La Mesa Train Museum.
