La Mesa Village Flag Day Parade
"A Salute to Old Glory - Celebrate America"
The City of La Mesa's next Flag Day Parade will be held tentatively on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 10 am. Please check back for confirmation date and time.
On Saturday, June 4 beginning at 9:00 am, downtown La Mesa will dress up in red, white and blue for the Annual Flag Day Parade,” A Salute to Old Glory! “ Pre-parade entertainment from 9:00am to 10:00am
The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. and marches through downtown La Mesa Village. Spectators will enjoy over 70 entries, including marching bands, floats and the Marine Corps Ensemble.
The La Mesa City Council was forced by budget constraints to withdraw municipal support of the parade in 2009, but a community fundraising effort begun by Shannon O’Dunn was quickly and generously joined by individuals and businesses, and the event was revived. Contributors have been invited to join officials on the reviewing stand. Floats, military vehicles, active and retired war heroes, equestrian units, service clubs and youth groups will celebrate civic pride and our national symbol, along with a 20-foot wide ‘living flag’ carried by community volunteers.
Two patriotic pre-parade concerts will begin the festivities from 9 am – 10 am: La Mesa Middle School band will perform at La Mesa Blvd. and Palm Ave., and the Granger Middle School Jazz Band will perform at La Mesa Blvd. and Date Ave.
Spectators are encouraged to dress in patriotic attire and cheer on the participants in this annual parade. La Mesa welcomes all East County residents and their families to share in this free and fun event!
